THE CONCURVE ‘MADE OF FERRARI 250 GTO’ EYEWEAR CASE

OWN AND USE A PIECE OF FERRARI HISTORY

Hand crafted in France to the highest standard, these unique Concurve cases feature two elements made of original metal from 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, chassis number #3527GT. This isn’t just an accessory – it’s a tangible link to one of the world’s most valuable and iconic automobiles.

A collaboration between TMB Art Metal and Concurve, these beautiful and useful cases involve two elements fabricated from original ex-Ferrari 250 GTO aluminium metal. TMB is providing the precious ultra-rare GTO metal and Concurve is the inspiration behind the case design, the brand name reflecting the attractive and tactile curved shape of the case.

Of two-tone red leather, this is a limited-edition of just 250 cases.

Each case is fitted with a miniature GTO sculpture made of ex-GTO aluminium on the closing tab and an engraved piece of original body shell inset into the back. The cases will be presented in an Alcantara sleeve within a high quality box, accompanied by a 40-page illustrated and hand-signed and numbered provenance booklet certifying authenticity.

Concurve Bronze 250 GTO Edition

In addition to this series featuring 250 cases with aluminium sculptures, we will also be crafting another limited edition of just 100 cases with car sculptures of a light golden colour, forged of ex-Ferrari 250 GTO bronze. They are to be cast of a mix of believed original 1962 ‘Kunifer’ cupro-nickel brake pipes and various phosphor-bronze bushings removed from 3527GT during the 2005 restoration.

THE CAR

TMB possess within its arsenal original ‘donor’ metal from several very significant cars, the most famous of which is a Ferrari 250 GTO.

In the world of historic collectible automobiles the Ferrari 250 GTO has no equal. Arguably the most beautiful Ferrari (and perhaps the most beautiful car) ever designed, the 250 GTO is a car with legendary status, and real pedigree. Only 36 GTOs were ever built, and today they reside within some of the foremost automotive collections in the world. Any seriously serious collector will crave a 250 GTO in their stable – but with prices reaching up to $70 million they will need extremely deep pockets.

THE METAL

In 2005 #3527GT changed ownership and underwent a thorough restoration.

During this operation a quantity of corroded or poorly repaired original aluminium body panel sections were removed and replaced to help preserve the car for the future. This historic material would have been discarded if it had not been acquired from the car’s owner in 2006 by Christopher Bennett of TMB.

Nowadays restorations of valuable, historically important cars are conducted differently, meaning it is unlikely that such original material will be removed from a GTO again, making this Ferrari provenance metal precious, scarce and true ‘unobtanium’ – from one of the world’s most famous automobiles.

Consisting of pieces of original aluminium body shell removed during the renovation of 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO chassis #3527GT in 2005, some of this metal is now being employed in the creation of this edition of functional slim Concurve ‘eyewear’ (glasses / sunglasses) cases.

THE CASTING

At TMB’s London metal casters pieces of the ex-GTO aluminium are melted down.

Using the ages old method of jewellery casting called ‘lost wax’, the molten Ferrari metal is poured into a casting flask, the hot liquid taking on the form of miniature 25mm GTO sculptures within.

There’s always an element of risk involved when melting and casting old metals not necessarily fit for this purpose, and it requires experience in casting techniques and temperature control to help ensure success.

THE STAMPING

Elliptical plates are stamped from the ex-GTO panelling.

The second GTO metal element is 32mm long engraved plates in the form of the car’s elegant slender oval shaped radiator air intake, each engraved with the case’s individual limited edition number, which is also featured in the included provenance booklet.

THE LEATHER

The Concurve cases are meticulously crafted by master leather artisans in France.

Made of French goat and Spanish calf, providing a pleasing subtle two-tone red, the leathers are selected for their beauty and durability, ensuring each case is a lasting expression of craftsmanship, carrying and protecting eyewear in uncompromising style for many years to come.

THE LIFESTYLE

Prominently featuring the polished aluminium GTO sculpture on the closing tab, your Concurve case will inevitably attract attention and become a fascinating point of conversation with fellow ‘Ferrarista’.

With no straight lines, the tactile Concurve case is as pleasing to hold as it is attractive to see and effective to use. Featuring a very efficient magnetic closure system, the case’s tab is easy to shut with smooth tactile precision, and with practice emits a satisfying ‘tak, tak, tak’, as first the two eyewear arms are snapped into place and then the closing tab snaps home.

I am very proud of these Concurve cases, both of the design and the fact they incorporate metal from the most famous and beautiful Ferrari in existence.

Of all the TMB Art Metal products created over the past twenty years this is my favourite, because it is the most useful on a daily basis. My daughter and I both carry one as an essential accessory – as a part-time glasses wearer I use it because it fits comfortably into my pocket, and she because it secures her sunglasses in her handbag, keeping them protected in a far more pleasurable way than the impractical, bulkier, characterless and boring cases we used in the past.

But the best bit is the intriguing story one can tell when the case is noticed – that it is made involving metal from the world’s most famous Ferrari!”

CUSTOMISATION, PERSONALISATION & EDITION NUMBERS

Akin to Vuitton and Goyard, to make your case especially unique we can potentially customise or personalise it.

Although the red leather Concurve cases adorned with their silver-coloured sculptural icon look stylish and unique in their own right, to add another layer of individuality a coloured band and / or simple initials of your choice can be hand painted onto the case by our skilled artist.

If adding lettering we recommend no more than three characters to maintain the sleek, clean look intended in the case’s design.

Two examples can be seen here, one with two letters and the other with three. Noteworthy are the brush marks, proof that these adornments are hand applied, so quite unique.

In addition, the front panel of the case can be crafted of a more spectacular leather such as alligator.

For either of these potential upgrades please contact us prior to purchase to discuss your requirements and the additional cost and timing involved.

This is a limited edition of 250 cases, each individually numbered 1 to 250 on the engraved plate attached to the back, the accompanying provenance booklet also being numbered and signed. Should you require a specific edition number we can try to accommodate this, but it will depend upon whether that number is still available and has not already been allocated or sold.

THE SPECIFICS

The Concurve case dimensions are 150mm in length, 60mm tall in centre and 30mm thick.

The case will facilitate most normal sized glasses with arms folded beneath the magnet fitted closing tab, but frames with thicker or curved arms may have to be folded outside the tab.

Most normal sunglasses will also fit, but sometimes these can have a more curved frame and larger arms, which may mean that the arms must be folded outside of the tab instead of beneath it.

By way of example:

A) shows a normal pair of spectacles that measure 130mm across the frame, with the straight arms secured beneath the tab.

B) shows a normal pair of sunglasses with frame measuring 135mm in length with slight curvature, also with arms folded beneath the tab.

C) shows a bulkier pair of Persol ‘Steve McQueen’ sunglasses with a frame length of 140mm, which are more curved, so whilst the frame can fit within the case the arms must be folded outside of the tab. This length of glasses are about as large as the case will accept.

The cases are made in France, the back panel and tab in Spanish calf leather and the front panel of French goatskin. Initially the leathers are quite stiff, but with use will soften, the goatskin acquiring a pleasing increase in visual ‘grain’. It is ideal to keep the case away from water, although the leather is quite resistant to light rain.

Due to reusing circa-1962 vintage aluminium for the purposes of casting, minor flaws or blemishes may be visible in the polished surface of the miniature GTO sculptures, but this only adds to the charm and uniqueness of the pieces. Likewise, there may be minor surface marks on the oval plates cut from the body panelling sections which could have been completely removed, but we think that providing not too noticeable this evidence of use only adds to the history and provenance of the items.

Being a leather product it is best to avoid contact with water, water or oil-based products, or chemicals. If your Concurve case should come into contact with water remove as much as possible using a soft paper towel and then let it dry slowly and naturally, do not use heat.

Being of aluminium the miniature GTO Essence of Form sculpture attached to your Concurve case shouldn’t tarnish. However, aluminium is fairly soft and if over time it attracts minor scratches these can be removed by carefully repolishing with a paste like metal polish using a cotton bud. It is wise to wrap some paper tissue around the car to avoid polish going onto the leather, but if it does use a damp cloth to remove it and allow the case to air dry.

The oval aluminium engraved plate may become marked over time, but having a brushed surface it is best left to age gracefully.

Founded in 2025 Concurve crafts the world’s most interesting slimline eyewear cases. The Concurve case is a practical, tactile and stylish way to carry your coveted eyewear. Crafted in France and involving historic provenance elements by TMB’s craftsmen, when spotted by fellow automotive aficionados it will beg questions to be asked, and then there’s the intriguing back story to tell. The name ‘Concurve’ references the fact that the design possesses no straight lines, just smooth tactile curves.

Founded in 2005 by Christopher Bennett, TMB Art Metal is a small London based luxury brand, the vital unique ingredient being that all products incorporate original material ‘recycled’ from the actual subject they portray, thereby forging a tangible physical link to the item’s historic inspiration. Often involving iconic automotive subjects, where the original material itself is extremely scarce and the ‘donor’ subject of high value, the initiative is to create attractive designs which are supported by the fact that they involve provenance, each piece with its own fascinating story – what the metal was once part of, where it’s been, what it’s done. Ultimate talking-point objects.
